My initial career was in engineering geology and then in local government. After being impressed by the effectiveness of hypnotherapy to improve sports performance, I trained at the London College of Clinical Hypnosis and obtained a Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis, and the Practitioners Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH). I am a full Member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

CBH helps you to make positive changes because it enables you to use the power of your unconscious mind, as well as your conscious willpower. It helps you to let go of that stuck “I just can't help myself" feeling, so it becomes much easier to do what you really want to do, and to stop doing what you don't want to do.
CBH is a combination of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Hypnosis, and is a particularly effective way to deal with a very wide range of problems. Even when a problem has a clear physical cause, a positive mental state can help to improve it. One of the areas I specialise in is stress, anxiety and depression, but I have worked very successfully with people of all ages and backgrounds, and with a very wide variety of issues they wanted to change and improve.
CBT is the type of therapy most recommended by the NHS because it gives proven results. It gives clarity about the underlying reasons for the problem, and provides powerful techniques for dealing with it. Hypnosis makes CBT more effective and helps to release old unhelpful patterns. It makes change on the level of feelings and emotions much easier, and strengthens confidence and motivation. Hypnosis is a natural everyday state, a bit like being absorbed in watching TV, or drifting off into daydream mode. In hypnosis you are aware and in control, and can't be made to do something against your will - in fact it strengthens your own determination and willpower. It is also very calming and balancing.
